Redact PDF

Permanently black out sensitive text in a PDF. Draw redaction boxes on any page — each redacted page is flattened to an image so the hidden content is truly removed.

Redaction that actually removes the text

A black rectangle you can drag on top of a PDF isn't real redaction — the words underneath are still there in the file and can be copied, searched, or lifted straight out. This tool does it properly. The moment you download, every page you've marked is rasterised: the page is redrawn as a flat image with your black boxes burned in, and the original text and objects beneath them are thrown away. What's covered is gone for good.

  • Draw as many boxes as you need, across as many pages as you need.
  • Only the pages you mark are flattened — untouched pages keep their sharp, selectable text.
  • Everything runs on your device, so confidential documents never leave your hands.

How it works

Three steps. No sign-up, no upload, no wait.

1

Add your PDF

Drop in the PDF you want to redact. It opens right here and never leaves your device.

2

Draw black boxes

Drag across any sensitive area on any page to cover it with a black redaction box. Add as many as you need.

3

Redact & download

Each redacted page is flattened to an image so the hidden content is permanently removed, then saved to your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the hidden text really gone, or just covered up?
It's really gone. Any page you draw a box on is flattened into an image before it's saved — the original text and objects underneath the box are discarded, not merely hidden. The black area is baked into the picture, so there is nothing left to select, copy, or recover.
Why does a redacted page become non-selectable?
True redaction means the underlying content must be destroyed. To guarantee that, we redraw each redacted page as a flat image with the black boxes burned in. That removes the live text layer for the whole page, which is the trade-off for making the covered information genuinely unrecoverable.
What happens to pages I didn't mark?
Pages with no redaction boxes are copied through untouched, so their text stays sharp and selectable. Only the pages you actually mark are converted to flattened images.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. Your PDF is opened, redacted, and saved entirely on your own device. Nothing is ever sent to a server, so no one — including us — can see your file.
Can I redact more than one area or more than one page?
Yes. Draw as many boxes as you like on a page, move between pages with the arrows, and mark any pages you need. Every box on every page is applied when you download.
Does redaction change the rest of my document?
Only the pages you redact are rebuilt as images; everything else is preserved. Because a redacted page becomes a picture, it's a little larger and no longer has selectable text on that page — keep your original if you'll need the full editable file later.
