PDF to Text
Pull all the text out of a PDF into a plain, copyable document — fast, free, and completely private.
How it works
Three steps. No sign-up, no upload, no wait.
Add your PDF
Drop in one PDF file. We open it right here and count the pages.
Extract the text
We read every page in order and gather the text into one document.
Copy or download
Copy the text with one tap, or save it as a plain .txt file.
Private by design. Everything happens right here in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded — we never see it.
About this tool
PDF to Text lifts the words out of a PDF and gives them back to you as plain, editable text — no formatting, no images, just the content you can copy, paste, or save. It’s perfect for quoting a report, pulling notes out of a document, or feeding text into another app.
It works with text-based PDFs — the kind created by Word, Google Docs, a browser’s “Print to PDF”, or most export tools. If your PDF is really a scan or a photo of a page, there’s no text layer to read, so nothing will come out. In that case use our OCR PDF tool, which recognises the letters in the image itself.
Big document? No problem. We read one page at a time and show a live progress bar, and you can cancel at any point — the page stays responsive the whole way through.
