What each count means
Words are counted by splitting your text on spaces and line breaks, so hyphenated terms like "well-known" count as one. Characters include every letter, number, space and symbol, while the "no spaces" figure strips out spaces, tabs and line breaks — handy for platforms with strict character limits.
Sentences are estimated by counting terminating punctuation (periods, question marks and exclamation points). Paragraphs are blocks of text separated by blank lines, and lines counts every line break in your text. Reading time assumes a comfortable pace of about 200 words per minute — a typical silent reading speed for adults.
This tool is perfect for writers watching a word target, students meeting an assignment length, and anyone trimming a social post to fit a limit.
Private by design. Your text never leaves your device. All counting happens right here in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.
