About Compress Video
Compress Video re-encodes your clip with H.264 video and AAC audio to
produce a smaller MP4, entirely in your browser. The compression level sets the
CRF quality target — Light, Balanced and
Strong trade file size against picture quality — and an optional resolution cap
scales the video down (never up) for an even bigger saving. It all happens on your device, with
nothing uploaded. Because it re-encodes every frame, longer and higher-resolution clips take more
time, and you can cancel anytime. If a source is already efficiently compressed there may be little
left to save.
🔒
Private by design. Your video is read and compressed right here in your browser — never uploaded, never seen by us. Nothing you add is ever uploaded.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which video formats can I compress?▼
You can drop in common video files like MP4, WEBM, MOV, MKV and AVI — one clip at a time. The compressed result is always saved as an MP4 (H.264 video + AAC audio) for wide compatibility.
What do the compression levels do?▼
They set how hard the video is squeezed. Light keeps quality very close to the original with a modest size cut; Balanced is a good middle ground for most clips; Strong squeezes the hardest for the smallest file, with more visible quality loss.
Should I also lower the resolution?▼
Dropping the resolution (for example to 720p) is one of the most effective ways to shrink a video. If you don't need the full pixel size — say for sharing or uploading — capping the resolution can cut the file dramatically on top of the compression level. Videos smaller than the cap are left at their original size.
Why did my file barely get smaller — or even grow?▼
If the source is already efficiently compressed, re-encoding can't save much, and a very low-bitrate clip can occasionally come out slightly larger. Try a stronger level or a lower resolution, or keep your original if it's already small.
How long does it take?▼
Everything runs on your device, so it depends on your computer, the clip length, and the level you pick. Longer or higher-resolution videos take more time — there's a live progress bar, and you can cancel anytime.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?▼
No. Your video never leaves your device — it's compressed entirely in your browser, and nothing is uploaded to any server.
